Congratulations to our sparkly gardener Nadine who has just completed her National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4.
She studied plant propagation, pruning, collecting seeds and taking cuttings, as well as planning and revegetating an area with native plants.
It is great to have Nadine share her gardening knowledge with the rest of the team.
Plant of the month this February is the delightful little flower is Zephyranthes candida or the Fairy or Rain Lilly. It flowers over a long period spring into autumn, but these I saw today, obviously happy with all the recent rain. Its leaves can reach 30 cm in length and is great planted in mass at the front of a border. Watering will extend its flowering season. We’d plant this alongside a companion plant with larger or different shaped leaves, to give a contrast in texture. Currently available at Awa Nursery, our favourite place to buy plants.
